TV in 3: ‘Adults’ Nearly Died. Then John Landgraf Told Them How to Save It

The show bosses unpack the FX chief’s key redirect. Plus: the Matthew Perry doc and Apple TV’s price hike

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Today, I’m joining the chorus and declaring Adults the show of the summer. A ratings flatline in season one nearly stunted the Gen Z comedy’s growth, but a vote of confidence — and an unconventional request — from FX network chief John Landgraf opened the door for the rave reviews that are pouring in for season two.

I’ve got more on that in my Q&A with creators Rebecca Shaw and Ben Kronengold below, and speaking of Friends, I also have some questions about Netflix’s Matthew Perry doc series announced this week. Plus, my update on the latest streaming #pricehikes.

But that’s all below the paywall, so here’s a deal alert: If you’re still not a paid subscriber to The Ankler, now is the time!
