Where you can soon finally fulfill your lifelong dream of owning the axe from The Shining! #NoJudgements

Although, let’s hope you also had other, uh, more lucrative dreams so you can afford the roughly $50k it’ll cost you at the Stanley Kubrick Collection auction at BONHAMS in February.

But maybe his director’s chair is a bit more within the reach of where your life actually turned out — that one is estimated to go for about $13k.

THEN: Ella Langley had to cancel a show in Oklahoma this weekend due to security threats made against it involving gunfire and/or explosions.

WAKEUP BOX OFFICE PREDICTION

Other Mommy beat expectations, including my own elevated ones, topping out at $25M. Well done!

THANKS!:

To NETFLIX for the invite to the 14th premiere in NYC Friday night.

A fantastic, vital documentary from Ava DuVernay, where my only gripe is that it’s not coming out until after the mid-term elections.

Highly recommend watching on NETFLIX in December, especially with your kids if they’re teens or in college.

🎥 The Box Office

Well, we’re about 6 weeks into the fall box office season, and Hollywood seems to be missing the mark creatively lately, after a somewhat hot summer (at least with the bangers).

Not a lot of great evidence here:

  • Resident Evil and Heart of the Beast seem to be the only movies with any kind of legs / truly positive word-of-mouth since Coyote vs. Acme and Buddy near the end of summer, with Forgotten Island at least being embraced by its core demo.
  • Otherwise — Digger, Verity, Other Mommy and Social Reckoning each haven’t managed to get above a B- in CinemaScores in the past 2 weekends. The PostTrak data isn’t much better.
  • Primetime and Practical Magic 2 also did not get above a B+ in September.
  • On the smaller side, The Uprising and Onslaught were also misses with audiences.
  • Runner and By Any Means also failed to generate much excitement in the action genre, at about $15M each.

SO: Hopefully Whalefall, Street Fighter, and Sense and Sensibility fare better this Friday and give audiences a more satisfying experience.
