Mornin! Here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026.

Where I’ll start the day by sending some love back east from my week in L.A., as the NY LIBERTY keep the NYC hoops mojo going!

The #8 seed LIBERTY beat the #1 seed MINNESOTA LYNX and rookie of the year Olivia Miles last night to take the opening-round series of the WNBA playoffs — the first time ever a #8 seed beat the #1 seed.

Here’s to keeping the #HotHoopsSummer extending into fall in New York.

THEN: CBS will show a full UFC numbered event for the first time this Saturday night with UFC 332 from Salt Lake City (previous CBS UFC broadcasts have cut out/tossed to PAR+ before the big main-card fights). The full night will also stream on PAR+, as usual.

AH: That 10+ year-high audience for the VMAs on CBS at 7.6M (ex. MTV audience) had a 30M audience lead-in from the end of the RAVENS vs. COWBOYS game right before the show.

BTW: Trump has spent $2.5M of DHS money — i.e., taxpayer money — on those propaganda ads for the Trump administration, according to AD IMPACT, including several slots on NFL football on FOX on Sunday.

ALSO: NETFLIX and the WWE have expanded their partnership to Japan, where NETFLIX will become the home for all WWE programming in the country starting tomorrow.

THEN: The Producers Guild named new leaders — Donna Gigliotti and Mike Farah, who will succeed Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line.

YIKES: If you’ve ever ridden Magic Mountain’s X2 rollercoaster and felt unusually woozy afterward — well, there could be a reason for that. SIX FLAGS is shutting down X2 after 18 years, following reports of brain injuries and some lawsuits that emerged this summer.

GOOD NEWS!: We’re finally out of Iraq, 23 years later.
