Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Friday, June 5, 2026.
Where for a bunch of geniuses, you’d think tech execs would learn to not use language like having a goal to “make people addicted” when referring to new AI bots.
Nice work, MICROSOFT! CEO Satya Nadella then came out with a statement calling that “absolutely a non goal!” for the record, which should totally assuage all concerns.
Also, clearly, that manager is not using AI to write their memos.

YAH: SAG-AFTRA members approved the AMPTP deal to the tune of 91% Yea. DGA . . . still waiting on y’all.
YEAH: Here’s your Monday late night TV 11:35 p.m. audience snapshot in our new post-Colbert era, via the folks at Late Nighter:
- ABC Kimmel: 2.19M (+53% YoY)
- NBC Fallon: 1.3M (+10% YoY)
- CBS Comics Unleashed: 628k (-65% vs. Colbert a year ago)
- Seth Meyers also handily beat the show at 12:35 a.m. (790k)
- COMEDY CENTRAL TDS: 612k (at 11 p.m.)
- Kimmel also won the 18-49s by a large margin, with 295k viewers, even over Gutfeld! on FOX NEWS (185k), which has a larger overall audience than all of the above (2.8M) — albeit at 10 p.m.
SO: Nick Bilton has set one of Scott Pelley’s now former producers, Maria Gavrilovic, as a new 60 Minutes Senior Producer — and Bilton said he will be learning from her in a memo to staff yesterday.
- No word on how much CBS will be paying Gavrilovic to fill in the new boss on how the show is made, but given that Bilton is making a reported $2.5M as EP (apparently $1M more than the previous EP according to Page Six Hollywood) — if the budgets get tight from that crappy linear TV business model erosion that Bilton has espoused is oh so dire for the show . . . I’m gonna guess she’ll have a few ideas on where they can trim costs.
LOOK: There’s a reason we all still make Lee Greenwood jokes in 2026 — yes, Trump has just set him to perform at his new June 24 D.C. rally, in lieu of the Freedom 250 D.C. concert debacle.
- Thankfully, he was able to fit it in before his performance at the Red, White and Brew festival in La Porte, IN, the following day. #NotAJoke
KUDOS: To Colorado for being the first state to ban push notifications and texts from gambling apps to encourage bets, and other bans like allowing credit card deposits to accounts or marketing to anyone under 21.
- This is only for sportsbooks and is regulated by the state’s Gambling Commission, so it likely doesn’t apply to KALSHI (POLYMARKET is still banned in this country 😉).
OH: GOOGLE is now allowing prominent online folks to create their own profile pages in GOOGLE searches. Alas, newsletter writers with A-level gif skills are not allowed . . . you must have 1 of the following:
- 100k YT subs
- 100k followers on IG or X
- 300k followers on TIKTOK
SO: COKE’s big World Cup social push features José Mourinho, the incoming manager of the Real Madrid soccer team . . . but not really. COKE’s “José vs. Mourinho” social content series will feature an AI version of the coach — a nice check to get for having your reps/team do all the work!
AND: NETFLIX is launching a FIFA World Cup video game on June 11, which, oddly, still somehow requires a $100 train ticket to MET LIFE Stadium to play each time.
- The game will be updated as the tournament progresses based on the results (NETFLIX has the Women’s World Cup in the U.S. next year).
SO: ESPN staffers are expecting another staff trim this summer, following one earlier this year, according to FOS. This one is expected to be mostly related to the integration of the NFL NETWORK business.
THEN: RUN-A-MUCK, the new production outfit from former CONDE exec Pamela Drucker-Mann, Ilene Chaiken and Jennifer Beals, got the WSJ profile treatment — including news of a $10M seed round funding.
- The company is also focusing on publishing short stories on its Drafting SUBSTACK as a basis for future TV and movie projects.
KUDOS: To the TEXAS softball team for winning the Women’s College World Series for the 2nd year in a row over TEXAS TECH.
FINALLY: Gotta love Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska, who has come from the lower rungs of the French Open tournament (she had to win 3 matches just to get into the tournament) to advance to the French Open women’s final tomorrow at 9 a.m. (TNT/HBO MAX).
But she is also speaking freely about the financial realities of being a low-ranked tennis player at a major tournament in an expensive city . . . and having real concerns about paying her hotel bill, as she wasn’t planning on having to stay in the city this long!
As Maja noted — tournaments don’t pay you those big checks until the thing is over (a Polish company sponsor has come in to help out).
THANKS!: To the folks at NETFLIX for the invite to the Rafa docuseries special screening in NYC last night, which is really well done 👏. A recommend, and I look forward to watching the rest of it (now on NETFLIX).
Plus, how often are you in a room where Bela Bajaria gives a shout-out to David Ellison from the stage? (he was also in attendance — it’s a SKYDANCE SPORTS production.)

AND: While I rarely, if ever, ask to take photos with talent at events . . . when I told Rafa that I know Elaine Low, he insisted (this one’s for you, Elaine 😁).
