Mornin! Here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026.
Where I dunno, it’s almost like all of the talk about people still clicking through to websites for source information from AI bots was complete BS, but . . . that can’t be true, right?
Yes, add “Websites” alongside “FM radio,” “Newspapers,” “Cable TV” and “iPods” on the list of things that still technically exist . . . but aren’t exactly businesses you want to be driving your revenue as the 2020s come to a close.
THEN: The T-Swift machine is warming up again — in advance of her VMA appearance this Sunday on CBS/MTV (the CHIEFS are kindly on the road in Miami on Sunday afternoon), she’s releasing four songs on Friday, including a new track teased yesterday called “Patient Zero.”
ALSO: Kara Swisher is indeed leaving her gig at CNN — likely at the end of the year when her contract expires, as previously promised — now that the Ellisons will be running the network.
AND: The hearing on the WARNAMOUNT settlement will be Thursday morning at 11 a.m. PT via Zoom. We’ll see if Gavin is also listening in to this, ya know, just to make sure.
OH: 60 Minutes continues to be . . . 60 Minutes on CBS. Sunday’s NIELSEN numbers are 6.8M, up from 6.5M the same weekend last year. Both editions didn’t have NFL lead-ins, so they were down from the previous week’s edition, which did — so I’ll end comps there, despite the media industrial complex still reading way too much into these numbers.
THANKS!: To the folks at HBO for the invite to check out the War premiere last night in NYC — a fun show and great casting. Plus, it’s always enjoyable to live a life in London vicariously that . . . is very different from when I visit London (but I’m sure there will be a pub scene eventually). Look forward to seeing the rest.
Plus, Casey Bloys insisted that I sit as close to him as possible. Or, well, at least to his podium. No comments made about Monday’s industry events at large, which, while less fun for me, was definitely the right move.
