☀️DISNEY’s 167 D23 news alerts from this weekend distilled in one newsletter

Box Office has 2nd worst weekend of 2022 / Chapek meets the press in rebrand push / TIFF’s big weekend as OSCAR season resets

Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on MONDAY September 12, 2022.

Where I’m trying out the new polling feature here! How is everyone feeling about the attention on the EMMYS tonight?

AND: Here are your VENICE FILM FEST winners, with HBO PURDUE PHARMA docu “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” winning the Gold Lion, and Blanchett & Farrell taking the lead actor awards.

ALSO: Fun to hear FOX Marketing literally calling their new “Monarch” series – “It’s‘Nashville’ meets ‘Succession’ in their NFL announcer promo reads yesterday, going with the coastal NYC Media series to promote their show to the NFL crowd instead of … I dunno – “Yellowstone”?

ALSO: So pleasant to listen to Chris Collinsworth literally lose his voice on-air throughout last night’s NBC “Sunday Night Football” game. Even bigger Advantage AMAZON picking up Al Michaels to do “Thursday Night Football” when NBC let him go.

IN TODAY’S EDITION:

  • Links to all the (publicly released) DISNEY universe trailers dropped this weekend, and roundup of all the big talent news headlines.

  • D23 makes gives opportunity for Bob Chapek to give interviews to the trades – a roundup of quotes to note.

  • TIFF’s big weekend, as the early film festival season produces many Acting award candidates from Streamers… but a few Studio pics (hello Fabelmans) are in strong Best Picture position, with many still-to-be-seen Studio OSCAR pics to come that will encounter a good amount of Best Picture nom white space – if they can deliver the goods.

  • NFL gets off to a so-so start on Thurs (mostly thanks to a bad game #thanksRAMS), and more
