Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on THURSDAY April 20, 2023.
Where it’s an appropriately chill start to 4/20 today 😶🌫️, so while we’re all relaxed before the flurry of the big Earnings Season week on the horizon… I figured I’d share some larger economic perspective out there that I saw in my reading last night:
While still below pre-pandemic levels, home foreclosures were up +22% in Q1 vs. a year ago, according to Bloomberg, which also cites that the car repo man is definitely gearing up for a busy 2023 as well.

BUT HEY: Good news for those of you Cali folks still considering a decampment to IDAHO – Boise was the real estate market with the biggest annual decrease in home prices in March, -15.4% vs. a year ago according to Axios.
Wakeup Box Office Poll:
WB’s Evil Dead Rises looks to be the big new pic this weekend, with tracking from $15 Mil to $20 Mil, although some think that’s low.
Unlike its previous “made for HBOMAX” brethren #MagicMike3 #HouseParty, this one is getting a proper wide 3300 theater opening.
So, let’s give ya 3 options.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
A look at some global sports piracy comps pitting the UFC against major NFL, NBA and WWE events in early Q1 this year.
Cancellations at NETFLIX & APPLE, another Fall renewal at ABC and a welcome cast member return to an HBO series.
SNAP+ announced a new subscriber high, but otherwise a pretty quiet Thursday… as the town awaits next week’s big DISNEY layoffs and the big Earnings report insights into just how the Q1 Ad market shook out.
