For many, many people in Hollywood, 2023 was the greatest of all disasters: the year a meteor hit their career as across the board companies big and small let go of employees on a massive scale, the industry-wide pullback leaving few good options for those whose positions were eliminated.

Coming right off his highly charged civil trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp signs the biggest men’s fragrance endorsement deal in history, for $20 million with Dior for the not-at-all ironically named “Sauvage.”
