Where let’s send out a 🍻 to YouTuber Matthew Patrick, aka MatPat, who runs the popular Game Theorists YT channel with 18.4 million subscribers (among other Theorist offshoot channels), and also hosted the STREAMY AWARDS last year.
Matt’s been in the YT game now for over 12 years, but he’s now hanging up his iPhone at the ripe age of… 37-years-old, and leaving the game to spend more time with his family (he literally said that). Meanwhile, silly actors still keep working for decades… some well into Social Security age, like fools. If only De Niro had started a YT channel when I told him to.
Although, it’s refreshing to see an industry where the… well, not grey-hairs, but maybe uh, slightly starting to thin-out hair crowd, actively hands the keys over to the next generation. Granted it’s mostly due to burnout… but uh, I guess we gotta take what we can get.
AND: Your DGA film nominees are Greta, Nolan, Yorgos, Payne and Marty.
PLUS: Here is your SXSW film & TV lineup this year, including UNI’s The Fall Guy and NETFLIX’s 3 Body Problem, and Pamela Adlon’s Babes. It runs March 8-16. No mention in the trades that it’s 50% owned by PENSKE MEDIA, so uh, I’ll handle that here 🤝.
THEN: Portions of DISNEY’s big D23 fan confab this Aug. 9 to 11 will be streamed on DISNEY+.
YES: Happy December inflation rate numbers day 🥳 to those who celebrate. Although sounds like there won’t be a lot of celebrating on Wall Street today as a result.
OH: The median rent for new apartment leases in Manhattan went up again in December +1.3%, to $4,050. What’s that? Yes, that’s per month.
