Evenin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY, September 14, 2025.

Where a happy Emmys night goes out to all who are attending — and to all who will be watching from their couches . . . and potentially flipping back and forth with NFL SNF on NBC. 🙋‍♂️

Meanwhile, I think the GIANTS are still committing penalties even though their OT loss to the COWBOYS is already over. Seriously guys? 14? Well, at least the game was close.

That about sums it up. Via Giphy

AND: Join Katey Rich and Christopher Rosen here at this link to watch the Emmys with them on the Prestige Junkie livestream! (I’ll be doing that too). Katey — if you need me to pop in with any NFL updates, just give me the nod.

ALSO: The Hamnet train added a little more velocity for FOCUS, nabbing the coveted audience award at TIFF today. We’ll see if this is more Slumdog Millionaire or Life of Chuck.

  • A pair of NETFLIX pics took the 2 and 3 slots in the voting (GDT’s Frankenstein and Wake Up Dead Man).

PLUS: Terence Crawford surprised many pundits and won his NETFLIX boxing match over Canelo Alvarez last night in a fight that took place at a time that would be quite ambitious for me to be awake for on a Saturday night (I was not).

  • From the tweets I saw today — the decision looks like it came down around 1:45 a.m. ET.

OOF: The NY TIMES is joining the #pricehike train, raising the price of its main news subscription by 22% 🤯 in October, to $28 a month according to the email they sent me Friday afternoon. #nicetiming

OH: PENSKE MEDIA is suing GOOGLE over the search engine’s AI overviews . . . which often give you the info you’re looking for without diverting any traffic (💰) to the source of that info.

  • PENSKE said its affiliate revenue is over -33% this year vs. the end of 2024.

AH: The latest move from the Trump administration — Lee Zeldin’s EPA is now proposing that many polluters will no longer need to collect and report numbers on their emissions of greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, etc.). Enjoy what I’m sure will totally result in fresher air, and the public commenting period that will soon begin.

THEN: Sean Astin is your new SAG-AFTRA president.

WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL

Kudos to my fellow bulls, once again!

🎥 THE BOX OFFICE

Personally, I couldn’t pick anything Demon Slayer out of a lineup . . . so let’s hope my search terms brought up the right thing. Via Giphy

We’ll start with the killer Demon Slayer numbers today, naturally — which are astounding and thus driving a huge weekend alongside 2 other new wide releases.

But otherwise . . . this box office Top 10 list is rather sad.

If there was ever a case for more movie volume being needed (and more consistent volume), and the benefits that happen when you do — note we had 3 new studio movies this weekend 😱 — mark down this week as a unique indicator of both!

This weekend also once again showed the power that Latino audiences have to put a movie into overdrive at the box office.

Here’s everything you need to know.
