APPLE TV+ gets next film from Steve McQueen
The “12 Years A Slave” filmmaker’s next pic is “Blitz”, set in WWII England.
Will shoot later this year, NEW REGENCY is producing, no price indicated or talent attached as of yet. /Deadline

The Box Office keeps underestimating “Top Gun: Maverick” – The film made $90 Million this weekend (not $86 Mil), making for an even more 🤯 29% drop from its opening 3-day total. /THR
PARAMOUNT is also being sued for not securing the rights from the original article that was “sourced” for the original “Top Gun” pic (“sourced” was the credit given in the movie). The rights reverted to the writer’s family after 35 years and PAR didn’t think it important to get them again… and the family uh disagrees. Seems like something that will go on for a while despite the family’s request to immediately pull the movie from release #yaHuh. THR has more legal minutia in the link 👆 if you’re inclined.
“Borat 2”’s Maria Bakalova is joining “Galaxy of the Guardians Vol. 3” – role not disclosed. Shooting just wrapped, will hit theaters in May next year. /Deadline
TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL Senior programmer Steve Gravestock is leaving after this year’s Fest, capping off a 25 year run with TIFF, primarily programming the Canadian films 🇨🇦. /THR

– NEVE CAMBELL passing on PARAMOUNT’s $$ offer for “Scream 6”. Pic is shooting this Summer, so… hoping writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick didn’t have any important plans for the rest of June.
No word on what the offer actually was – although perhaps PARAMOUNT may dig into that extra $4 Million “Top Gun” money they found from the weekend to make it happen.

BUZZFEED stock drops 40%, now worth just 25% of what it went public at 6 months ago
Essentially… a stock lockup period expired at the 6 month mark after going public this week, thus allowing many of BUZZFEED’s initial investors to dump the stock if they deem that uh, well they want to. /Yahoo Finance
Thus everyone fears a bunch of shares will be dumped on the market which would lessen the value of said BZFD shares. #toolate
ROKU launching a Hispanic programming hub called Espacio Latino on their free ROKU CHANNEL
Mostly licensed TV Shows & Movies in Spanish, or English programming dubbed in Spanish, although there is some original exclusive content.
The Espacio will also have over 50 streaming channels to watch so… kind of a hub within a hub deal, plus the ability to add on Spanish pay-streaming services. /Deadline

Tom Brady & Michael Strahan’s RELIGION OF SPORTS production company raised another $50 Million in a Series B round of funding (how much is that in crypto?).
Primarily from SHAMROCK CAPITAL, infamously known as being the owner of TAYLOR SWIFT’s uh… old (?) catalog.
