The Ankler

Mornin! Here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026.

Where I may not have won an award last night — but I’d like to thank the BRONCOS for collapsing against the CHIEFS in the 2nd half of MNF so I could switch over to the Emmys for a bit.

It was also considerate of Mariska Hargitay to TL;DR the most memorable moments from the show for us NFL fans right before the final award of the night with the . . . uh, I guess, on-brand heavy APPLE TV show plug Best Comedy Series intro from Harrelson & McConaughey.

Either way — The Ankler’s Matthew Frank took a break from his significant betting market research on KALSHI last night to look into whether Taylor’s L&O sketch appearance would count as “showing up” at the Emmys (even though she was 100% in Kansas City last night), but apparently KALSHI was not taking action on that one. 🤯

However, POLYMARKET couldn’t resist creating a market on whether someone would drop an Emmy statue on stage (Matthew wouldn’t tell me which side he took).

OH: Here is your full list of Emmy winners, as APPLE has now won Best Comedy in 4 of the last 6 years . . . but HBO continues to dominate in Best Drama.

  • APPLE TV: 28
    • Including 14 forWidow’s Bay, the most wins for a comedy series in a single year.
  • HBO MAX: 21
    • Including 7 for DTF St. Louis and 6 for The Pitt (7 if you want to count Inside the Pitt, the BTS short-form series that won at the Creative Arts Emmys).
  • NETFLIX: 16
  • NBC/PEACOCK: 15

BUT: Hopefully no afterparties were funded by Russian oligarchs with close ties to Putin, like the 2 days of parties that Don Jr. had for his wedding this summer that dad didn’t bother to attend. But don’t worry — the wedding itself did not have money from the couple’s “dear friend Umar,” according to the bride.

  • #FunFact: Umar is also the head of the International Boxing Association, an organization funded by a Russian energy company currently subject to extensive US financial sanctions.

AND: As expected, Oasis is going back out on tour next summerpre-register here by Thursday to get the link to buy tix later this month.

PLUS: Chappelle is hitting the road in late October for 7 arena dates, concluding at MSG on Nov. 6 as part of the NY Comedy Festival. The pre-sale begins this morning.

EXACTLY: Sydney Sweeney’s gambling prediction app ad that looks like it got creative direction from CARL’S JR. execs is going over great with the female athlete community.

ALSO: AMAZON PV is adding short-form news clips to the platform in the News tab area of the app, in both local news from affiliate group TV owners and national news from the broadcast networks. Cable TV news nets are not listed as being sources.

YUP: Oprah is doing a 3-day show at the Sphere in April, called Oprah Winfrey’s AHA. The “immersive” experience will also feature performances by musician Jacob Collier and poet Ocean Vuong.

YAH: NETFLIX and YOUTUBE are teaming up! Well, at least in D.C., where they’ve founded a new public policy influencing / lobbying group with AMAZON called the STREAMING ACCESS AND CHOICE ALLIANCE (MAGA, meet SACA). A trade group called TECHNET leads the effort, representing #BigTech companies.

  • The goal is to advocate on behalf of the streamers regarding investments “in a wide range of programming, including live sports.”
  • So yes — this is about protecting challenges from legislators around sports rights on behalf of TV broadcasters as MLB, NHL and very likely NFL deal rights enter negotiations over the next 3 years or so, not to mention men’s World Cup rights.

MAN: This META Glasses U.S. Open tennis ad 👇 is f’ing depressing. Always nice to see everyone taking in the majesty of a gorgeous day outside at the courts and connecting with fellow humanity.

Then again, when people watch all U.S. Open matches featuring tournament winner Alexander Zverev, they spend hours of their lives literally watching him bounce a ball roughly 12,000 times before hitting it over the course of his 7 matches — maybe the activity in this video is more exciting.

THEN: There’s zero chance Trump’s “There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers” quote yesterday ages badly, right? The Ankler’s Reel AI column looked at the Hollywood implications if AI bots run amok inside the studios and streamers as the head of ANTHROPIC rang the 🚨 about this weekend.

BUT: Let’s round out the top here with a fun and poignant NYT read from John Koblin looking at simpler times in the form of the soon-to-be defunct Cable Center in Denver, built in the late 1990s as kind of a cable TV business museum and archive . . . that has now been sold for $20M, with most of the history going into storage.
