☀️ NETFLIX’s Next Big Theatrical Step

AMC settles ‘TWD’ lawsuit, takes write-down / LGF sets 🎥 animation deal / NETFLIX revives ‘Lonesome Dove’

Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

Where we’ve got quite an array of things to celebrate today across the cliques of Hollywood:

  • It’s the start of football for the jocks on NBC tonight.
  • It’s $2,000+ APPLE iFold phone day for the nerds. #WorkingTitle
  • It’s “Fly to TIFF” day for many of the theater geeks and A/V clubbers — don’t forget to stock up on Canadian beer on the way home now that it’s about to be banned in the U.S. In any other year in TIFF’s history, that would have actually been a joke. #Trump2026

Either way, I thank the WARNAMOUNT folks for a full quiet week for once to round out summer 2026, giving the Bogey Lowenstein future yuppy crowd a break.

So, naturally, let’s all assume both sides are actually talking and enjoy the downtime.

WELL: Ok yes, PSKY did reiterate yesterday that it’s looking for the $1.9B bond from the state AGs / WGA, although that’s more of a formality in the process leading up to the judge’s decision in about 2 weeks.

PLUS: MS NOW is including live daily Q&As with the network’s talent as part of its newly launched streaming subscription app.

AH: The DOJ is asking for additional information and materials around the FOX / ROKU deal, or a “Second Request” as the legal department calls it.

THEN: Ari’s timing for fueling up the old ENDEAVOR PJ 🛩️ to hit the road for his book tour may not be great with oil back over $100 a barrel . . . but we gotta move some units, folks!

HMM: I wonder if any of those interviewers will bring up Elon choosing to spend his initial PAC money this fall on anti-trans ads supporting Republican candidates like it’s 2024 all over again? Ya know, back when gas was $3.22 and not hitting $4.20 in September.

AND: SNL U.K. is going the creator route for week 2 this season, enlisting Chicken Shop Date’s Amelia Dimoldenberg, and then has British comedy figure Jamie Demetriou hosting in week 3.

YEAH: CHANNEL 4 is cutting about 25% of its workforce across the pond, or roughly 340 positions by the end of the year.

ALSO: NBC will air new Tonight Show episodes after 4 Sunday NFL games this fall.

FINALLY: The new Oasis concert pic, Don’t Look Back In Anger, is a good fucking time (to put it in the likely words of Liam Gallagher).

Don’t expect a deep look at how it all came together or what life on the road was actually like . . . but the concert performances are awesome, and frankly, it’s just kind of a reaffirming experience for humanity in the age of AI music and heavily produced, social media-focused personas in music (and elsewhere) that we’re living with these days.

High recommend checking it out in IMAX or otherwise this weekend! #GenXrules

Lastly, Katey Rich and Christopher Rosen recapped the Telluride Film Festival on the Prestige Junkie podcast yesterday — including insights on A24’s Nathan Fielder doc about Elizabeth Holmes. Watch for Katey and Chris later this week from Toronto.
