Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on MONDAY November 21, 2022.
Where the 3rd act of “Ghostbusters” is apt at describing both the vibes on TWITTER this weekend (oh hi…YE), and HOLLYWOOD’s brain this morning as the WTF situation at DISNEY settles in.

More below with some bigger picture analysis (the Stock is too easy a scapegoat), but just… wow. We all know DISNEY can’t resist a sequel but this is ridiculous.
ALSO: Did anyone else know APPLE TV+ is now licensing films from Studios… or am I behind here? Saw a bunch like “The Hudsucker Proxy”, “Silver Linings Playbook”, “Tommy Boy”, and“Clerks” on there when I watched “Causeway” and the Sidney Poitier doc this weekend.
They’re positioned as limited “APPLE TV+ Bonuses” so… looks like someone’s running a test? Mostly (but not entirely) with films starring folks who have new APPLE TV+ projects (JLaw, Ferrell, Reynolds, etc).

TALL WRITER, SMALL SOAPBOX: The “Sidney” doc was great… with a caveat of that it was truly too short. How do we get 1hr 50min on one of the most important figures in 20th century history… and almost 3 hours on the guy who sued PEPSI over a Marketing promotion? Streaming – your priorities are outta whack.
ALSO: Really enjoyed the new Neal Brennan comedy special “Blocks” too.
PLUS: A public service announcement – GOOGLE has improved search for EV Charging stations on GOOGLE MAPS, including by charger-type. You can also search by ‘(insert favorite dish) around me’ on GOOGLE. Can’t wait to see who serves the best peanut butter sandwich in Queens.
AND: In case you’re wondering how many people are left holding the bag in the FTX fiasco, they owe $3.1 Billion to just the top 50 creditors, with the Top 10 all $100+ Million in the hole right now (no names listed in the filing).
KUDOS: To the 60% of Wakeup Friday Box Office experts who once again called it – no other movie crossed $10 Million this weekend after “BP2”.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
A timeline for what to expect ahead in Iger’s 2.0 tenure
The Box Office breakdown, from a less than ideal “BP2” week 2, and the DOA factor on “She Said”, and updates on “The Fabelmans” and new entrants in the specialty marketplace.
Matt & Ben are the latest to set out to recreate UNITED ARTISTS in HOLLYWOOD, only this time using “proprietary databases”. Ah what Mary Pickford could have done with those…
ABC un-orders a new high profile show (always nice to see synergy with DISNEY corporate), and much more on a way busier holiday-week Monday than we’d like.
📽 THE SILVER SCREEN

BOB II is out, BOB I is back, HOLLYWOOD is floored
JUNE 28, 2022: DISNEY Board renewing Bob “II” Chapek for 3 years as CEO:
“In this important time of growth and transformation, the Board is committed to keeping Disney on the successful path it is on today, and Bob’s leadership is key to achieving that goal.
Bob (Chapek) is the right leader at the right time for The Walt Disney Company, and the Board has full confidence in him and his leadership team.”
NOV 20, 2022: DISNEY Board re-instating Bob “I” Iger as CEO… less than 5 months later:
“The Board has concluded that as Disney embarks on an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely situated to lead the Company through this pivotal period.”
Bob Iger just one month ago at the CODE conference:
“I don’t miss my job… Retirement is great, I have a vastly different life than before. Much more air in my day.”
OK WHAT GIVES?
Let’s look at a few key factors, including the Stock, Q4 thus far, and simply successor’s remorse. Plus a look at how this may very well play out in in the next 3 to 6 months ahead.
