The Ankler

☀️EXTRACTION can’t catch Sandler or JLo on the NETFLIX Films chart

WBD staff “refinement” layoffs continue / HBO & NETFLIX in library syndie talks / Ryan Murphy & NETFLIX parting ways

Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY June 21, 2023.

Where NETFLIX adjusted their weekly data reporting charts to show not just Hours-Watched tallies, but also View counts – a metric that… curiously matches what a newsletter some guy from Jersey 🙋‍♂️ has been doing for NETFLIX Films for almost a year 🤔.

Basically – they’re just doing the (very basic) math for us now. See? You’ve been getting all of this math free with your Ankler subscription this whole time! 😲

(You’ll still continue to ALSO get the context as to how the new numbers each week, ya know, compare to previous NETFLIX Films and all-time totals here in THE WAKEUP… which the charts don’t give you).

AND: Dave Burd aka Lil Dicky will be dropping a new album this Summer, including some music from the show.

ALSO: Tina & Amy added 7 more dates to their Restless Leg tour throughout the 2nd half of the year… probably nowhere near anyone who reads this newsletter. Well. Maybe Austin, TX (NY & LA dates are likely coming as well).

A fun Q&A with the duo is in the THR link too:

Have any of your kids seen the show yet?

Fey: No, they don’t wanna see that. If your mom did a show with her friend, where they were just talking to one another for an hour, would you go to that? (😂)

📽 THE SILVER SCREEN

The Flash falls even further to $61 Million in 4-day total

That’s more than a $3 Million dip from their previous estimate. Can’t say this is a surprise given that 4-day projections kept falling through the weekend… but yeah that B Cinemascore is screaming loud and clear.

ALTHOUGH: Perhaps everyone was watching this 👇.

NETFLIX Films Weekly Global Viewership Chart

Week of June 12 thru June 18

usual caveats: back of the napkin math, assumes everyone finished the movie (including the credits), no one watched twice, or that a bunch of folks didn’t rewind certain parts, etc. so consider these minimum numbers. and it’s based on NETFLIX’s self-reported numbers.

Extraction 2… so close!

Mr. Hemsworth returns to the NETFLIX chart this week – but just can’t quite…
