☀️BLACK ADAM hangs strong, as ARMAGEDDON TIME is a no-show

Kimmel set for OSCARS / HBO ends WESTWORLD / HULU+LIVETV raises prices / META joins massive layoffs list

Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on MONDAY November 7, 2022.

Where I love the time of year when I’ll soon be waking up in the dark to write in the morning. Think I may need to start a Southern Hemisphere outpost for The Ankler in the Winter months… drop me a note if you’d like to set up a co-working space – I’m open to suggestions.

FOR THE RECORD: The Senate passed a bill to end the inane Daylight Savings Time practice in March. Since then it’s been sitting in the House of Reps #shocking – I mean if anyone is looking for a last minute Election Day boost… it couldn’t be easier. $4.6 Billion in political Ad spending this year and not one mention!

AND: Congratulations once again to the sage Wakeup Box Office experts: 68% chose “Black Adam” on Friday to win the weekend, over what turned out to be a weak CRUNCHYROLL pic.

THEN: THE OSCARS telecast is bringing back Jimmy Kimmel to host in March.

PLUS: Last week’s TWITTER is this week’s FACEBOOK – META is going to layoff “thousands” this week according to the WSJ, but further details to come. (META has about 87k employees globally).

ALSO: While I definitely give Philly sports folks some deserved side-eye – a tough weekend there for sure… as Philly lost both the WORLD SERIES and the US SOCCER MLS Championship on the same day Saturday (this goal with 13 seconds left was pretty great. For LA). Then again the EAGLES are now 9-0 so the sentiment of feeling bad for them soon left me.

IN TODAY’S EDITION:

  • Important lessons “Ticket to Paradise” and “Smile” taught the Movie Business this Fall

  • LIONSGATE picks up Liam Neeson pic with the most accurate title of his entire ouevre

  • HBO ends “Westworld”, but still paying the actors

  • PARAMOUNT reshuffles March pics

  • World Series hammers AMAZON’s TNF on Thursday

  • HULU Cable TV bundle raises prices

  • CBS gives “Fire Country” a big vote of confidence and more.

HBO BOOK TALK: As Ankler CEO Janice Min mentioned in our podcast this weekend – she’s doing a conversation with Felix Gillette & John Koblin, the authors of the new HBO book, “It’s Not TV: The Spectacular Rise, Revolution, and Future of HBO” on Tues Nov 15 in LA. You can get tix here, although only a few left so click soon if inclined.
