Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Where I gotta say, there’s something about a Friday the 13th feeling kinda spot-on following the 2 weeks we’ve had in this business so far in June.

Either way, bit of a shame most of America has been sleeping on the NHL Stanley Cup this year — 3 of the first 4 games have gone into OT. Congrats to EDMONTON for coming back from being down 3-0 to even the series!

AH: Gotta love this chart about the 8 teams competing for the College World Series in the “amateur” sport of college baseball. Games begin today on ESPN.

THEN: As a shock to . . . no one, the House of Representatives voted to rescind NPR and PBS funding, totaling $1.1B over 2 years. 4 Republicans joined all Democrats in voting against the bill, which now goes to the Senate.

AND: Trevor Noah moved his What Now? pod to SIRIUSXM after a 2-year stint at SPOTIFY. No pricetag was reported.

ALSO: Turns out the 2021 streaming business and China EV business have more in common than you think. It seems the seemingly mystifying low prices and immense production of vehicles is leading to a result where some big China EV makers no longer have the money to pay their vendors . . . and liabilities exceed assets at 1/3 of the publicly listed carmakers.

Will keep it pretty short here up top today as other events in the world certainly, and deservedly hold our attention.

WAKEUP POLL RESULTS

I’m joining the chorus here on How to Train Your Dragon, especially as it gets the IMAX screens.

NEW ANKLER PODCAST EPISODE

THANKS!: To the folks at HBO for the invite to class up my previous Thursday night plans to watch hockey . . . and check out The Gilded Age season 3 premiere last night at the TRIBECA FESTIVAL in NYC.

Fun to see a show I had never seen before . . . and once again, HBO quality shines through. Well-acted, well-produced with a sharp wit.
