Ode to My Teacher

It's back to school, and Rob Long reflects on what you can and can't learn in the classroom

Way back in high school, Rob Long played Polonius in Hamlet, and the acting teacher for the production, Tim Hillman, “saw in us — and in me — things that weren't there.” In every movie about teachers, you see, there’s a common theme that all students have a magic inside them. In reality, eh, not so much. But when you’re a student, it’s good to have teachers who tell you that you can do anything, When you’re older, you need to teach yourself. Look no further than the George Clooney of Cuba.

Martini Shot
When you’re filming a movie or a television show, when it’s the last shot of the day, the first assistant director will call out, “This is the Martini Shot!” I call these stories “Martini Shots” because they’re exactly the kinds of stories we tell — and lessons we learn — after we’ve wrapped for the day. - Rob Long
