NETFLIX sets Cavill for action-comedy / PAR+ buys Mangold series / ABC June sports #s scoring

Evenin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY, June 6, 2026.

Where a felicitations goes out to 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva for sealing the French Open women’s tennis championship over underdog Maja Chwalińska this morning.

That’s Andreeva’s first Grand Slam title, and she’s the youngest woman to win the French Open since Monica Seles in 1992.

But as people who are totally fooling themselves say — age is just a number . . . so Elaine Low, I still think next year could be your year!

PLUS: PARAMOUNT must release internal board communications regarding the Shari PAR sale / her dismissal of 3 board members prior to the deal, as ordered by a judge in her ongoing investor lawsuit over the PSKY deal.

YES: The “60 Minutes 3″ of Stahl, Whitaker and Wertheim will remain at the show so it’s not totally blown up by September.

AND: Scott Pelley dove into his version of events in a new NYT pod interview.

  • That includes Pelley detailing an odd and subsequently retracted accusation by CBS NEWS Prez Tom Cibrowski that Pelley had engaged in some kind of physical abuse against Nick Bilton — and Pelley’s overall thoughts on the “on fire” state of CBS NEWS (not in the good way) and #KlownCollege state of leadership out of their depth in TV news.

OH: The latest GLP-1-driven effect on business? An influx of returned clothes due to rapid weight loss, unfortunately causing losses on retailers’ bottom lines.

THEN: Delivery system GO PUFF is partnering with GROK to have Elon’s AI bot fill out your cart for you . . . in case you’re wondering why you’re getting cigarettes, nudie magazines and 6’ers of cheap beer that you don’t recall ordering.

REST IN PEACE: Goes out to Anthony Head, who died from complications from pneumonia at the age of 72 last week.

WAKEUP BOX OFFICE PREDICTION

  • My up to $48M on Scary Movie was indeed too low! 😱

KUDOS: To Tribeca Festival for a fun first weekend — it was great to get down for a screening on Saturday and have another dose of early 2000s nostalgia with Pacey and Joey Josh Jackson and Katie Holmes reuniting for her Happy Hours pic.

The fest runs all week; schedule and tix here.

FINALLY: This Vince Vaughn Madden 27 EA video game trailer is pretty great.

🎥 The Box Office

This is probably the healthiest weekend box office chart I’ve done all year . . . and then some, especially not for a holiday period.

AND: Not just because of the grosses — you’ve got a wide variety of genres including comedy, horror, action, dramedy, historical drama, big IP . . . even another YOUTUBE-driven success. The only thing we’re missing is a rom-com or a thriller!

BUT: Everything about Scary Movie is worth looking at, from the big grosses to who showed up to see it — same for Masters of the Universe . . . on the exact other side of the spectrum.

ALSO: This weekend once again proves for the cheap seats that millennial #nostalgia > Gen X #nostalgia.

PLUS: UNIVERSAL is also having a Q2 that should be getting a lot more chatter than it has so far.

SO: Let’s dive in!
