One of the nice things about the Great Netflix Crash of 2022 is that weβre free to ask big questions, once again, about streaming, business models, and the future of entertainment. Two gigantic questions in particular stand out:
Should films go to theaters, go to streamers on the same day they go to theaters, or go to streaming services only?
Should streamers release their TV series binge or weekly?
On the first question, we donβt have answers. After this summer, weβll know a lot more. (Itβs looking like theatrical releases help films even once they go to a streamer, but since so many films have been released in so many different ways, itβs hard to figure out since itβs not apples-to-apples. Trust me, Iβm working on it.)
On the second question, thatβs what Iβm going to try to answer today. And yes, I know: you canβt swing a dead cat without hitting an article on the internet about βbinge vs weeklyβ releases.
