☀️ True Detective creator sets next series at AMAZON
ESPN explores a strategy expansion for their app / TUBI doing Peter Dinklage pic / UNI MUSIC Streaming $ growth stays +10%
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect here on LINKED IN if ya like) and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on FRIDAY March 3, 2023.
Where now that the first Earnings Season of 2023 is over, let’s relax with a Friday morning coffee ☕️ on the patio at Bennifer 2.0’s soon to be new home in Pacific Palisades (I hope Dunkin’ is OK).
The deal isn’t quite done as it’s still in escrow, although the list price was $34.5 Million…. but hey #LoveDontCostAthing amirite? 7 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms (🤷♂️), with 4 kitchens, including one in the guest house - hopefully the deal gets done in time to let me crash there next week.
AND: 2 Senators have sent a sternly worded letter to Zuck asking him to reverse his intention to allow (and encourage) teenagers from 13 to 17-years-old to use their upcoming Horizon Worlds metaverse app. Although discouraging teenagers from using a FACEBOOK product is a bit like discouraging AARP members to attend VID CON. I think you’re good.
Wakeup Box Office Poll: Creed III is opening on 4000 screens, including a big IMAX push. Previous 3-day opening numbers for the first 2 pics were $41 Million and $35 Million…
Tracking here has $36 Mil to $40 Mil so let’s split the difference!
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
ESPN explores making its app the TV Guide of live sports.
For a company making repeated public statements saying the Streaming Music biz model doesn’t work… The World’s Largest Music Label UNIVERSAL MUSIC kept making a lot of money from it in 2022.
AMAZON sets a fun cast for director Paul Feig’s next comedy pic, and gets a new series from True Detective's creator.
SEARCHLIGHT is looking to do a movie on one of this year’s OSCAR nominated Docs.
TUBI gets new Peter Dinklage movie.
The Weekend Preview of new TV & Movies to watch… plus a very busy day for new TV & Movie Trailers and more.
CLARIFICATIONS on a few items from my ENDEAVOR Q4 Earnings roundup earlier this week (a thanks to EDR for the follow up).
The paydays from WME’s 3 biggest SVOD buyers were 2% of ENDEAVOR’s overall 2022 Revenue… not the WME division’s Revenue.
Which means approximately $105 Million worth of payment Revenue in 2022 (not $30 Million as I said on Weds, which did seem a bit low to me).
ENDEAVOR as a whole is projecting +10% Revenue growth for 2023, not the WME division - which is not making any specific $$ projections for 2023.
The new SPORTS MEDIA & TECH business division will not contain the ENDEAVOR STREAMING division. It will contain OPEN BET as I mentioned on Wed, and a division called IMG ARENA which delivers “live streaming video and data feeds for sports events”… which sounds like a somewhat complementary business to OPEN BET?
The ENDEAVOR STREAMING video tech division still sits in the EVENTS, EXPERIENCES & RIGHTS business line… for some reason. 🤷♂️
