UNI picks up sex comedy / DIS takes ESPN down under / ‘True Detective’ sets S5 plan
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on THURSDAY, February 13, 2024.
Where Hollywood’s hottest 2025 trend so far is . . . the White House! 🤔
Between February and late April alone, we have five new projects for the American public that are all centered on either the President or the White House:
HULU Paradise
DISNEY MARVEL Captain America 4
NETFLIX Zero Day
AMAZON G20
NETFLIX The Residence
And let’s not forget the Oscars. Throw in a White House-centric NETFLIX Kathryn Bigelow pic in the works and . . . okay yes, I’m sure somehow Trump is taking this all as a compliment.
THEN: Cable TV tycoon John Malone is doing a memoir at KKR’s SIMON & SCHUSTER called Born to be Wired, coming in September — so, just in time for the latest carriage dispute at the start of football season.
Ah, look — S&S’s former home PARAMOUNT said it’s on the brink of a blackout with YOUTUBE TV today as their carriage deal expires. I’m sure John appreciates the PR bump.
AND: Jon Stewart will host the annual Night of Too Many Stars autism benefit show in NYC, with Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Amy Schumer and more comic talent set to perform on Mar. 31 at the BEACON THEATER. Tickets avail here now.
Jon, John Oliver, Ramy Youssef, Chris Distefano, Desi Lydic and more are also doing a Comic Relief: Stand-Up for L.A. show on Mar. 3 at the Town Hall theater to benefit the needs of underserved communities in Los Angeles. Tickets on sale here.
ALSO: APPLE TV+ is finally available on the ANDROID OS. Yup, that should finally do it — profits here we come!
THEN: Luka Doncic’s LAKERS debut on Monday got 2M viewers on ESPN, the 5th highest cable-only NBA audience this season including the 2 opening night games. I am really curious what numbers these games are gonna do on NBC Tuesday nights every week next season.
PLUS: The EFM starts today over in Germany, so we’ll see who’s buying.
MAN: How about those new inflation numbers, amirite? I mean, with these kind of numbers 👇, no wonder the working class is so unhappy.
