☀️SNAP's US engagement falls, -27% stock drop on Digital Ad outlook

Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on FRIDAY October 21, 2022.

Where I gotta say my first attempt at welcoming Janice back to NYC this week for ADVERTISING WEEK wasn’t my finest effort 😬… but let’s just say we have the high shelves and the low shelves well covered here at The Ankler.

Note to self: next time - hold camera in ‘vertical’ mode.

But we corrected things inside at RUSS & DAUGHTERS over some truly delicious food🤤 (CNN & HBO folks - your future looks bright as they’re opening a new HUDSON YARDS outpost soon). However - I clearly was thinking “Nah there’s no way I’m in this shot…”

I’ll let you figure out which one of us used to run US Weekly.

#funfact: Zero Mostel is in that pic behind us

PLUS: THR takes a look at the pay ranges for most talent (directors, writers, actors) and some executives (agents, studio heads) in the 2022 Streaming & Studio world. Anyone know how to get paid to stream a newsletter?

AND: If you’re working on doing anything good to help a group of folks out there in need these days, that could use some support - drop me a note! I’m still building up a list of things to mention in what I hope becomes a weekly ‘doing good’ slot in the newsletter (same as always - seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com)

IN THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF THAT: Kevin Spacey was found “not liable” in the Anthony Rapp sexual harassment trial in the UK. The jury deliberated for about an hour.

TODAY’S POLL: How we feelin’ about “Ticket to Paradise”? Honestly I could really see this one going either way 🤷‍♂️.

  • Clooney’s last theatrical hit was almost 10 years ago (“Gravity”), and he hasn’t had a theatrical release since 2016 (“Money Monster”, also co-starring Julia Roberts)

  • Julia’s last pic in theaters (“Wonder”) was 5 years ago… which was a big hit. But other than that, her last big theatrical presence was also about 10 years ago (“August: Osage County”, “Mirror Mirror'“).

But it’s still Clooney & Roberts. Tracking says $12 to 15 Million depending who you ask… so what say ye?

IN TODAY’S EDITION:

  • Why SNAP stock fell 27% this time, and what’s ahead for Digital Advertising

  • Elon may pretty much gut the employee roll at TWITTER

  • PARAMOUNT sneaking “Yellowstone” & “Tulsa King” in movie theaters

  • “John Wick” director sets NETFLIX pic

  • VERIZON FIOS TV cord cutting continues, a look at the new deceleration rate, as Fixed-Wireless Broadband biz takes off in early stages.

  • SONY pushes pic out of January, and more

OH! And it’s T-SWIFT day of course. Here’s the trailer for her new album’s “short films” (aka music videos), a video whose energy I’m sure played gangbusters with the NFL Thursday Night Football fanbase when it premiered last night. Ahem. Taylor of course will be playing me off at the end of today’s email with her new music vi short film.

PLUS: What’s a new album release without relasing…. 7 more “3 AM” songs just 3 hours after your album drops amirite?
