Entry level jobs pay less because the skill sets are far less than higher level jobs require. Businesses and missions change as conditions change. Movement is the key to life: people taking entry level jobs hope they will move up. Nothing is guaranteed, ever. I hope those you interviewed are nimble and perceptive enough to make the most of the opportunities to grow in situations they will encounter in their careers. I almost have to laugh at the mention of two people who found career openings thanks to their own initiatives, rather than what the program offered. The program offered them the wonderful chance to be in the right place at the right time. Those who make it through this time of change whether in the new company or without will gain valuable experience by keeping their eyes, hearts and minds open.

I worked in a related creative field, book publishing, and am now a professional artist, and so I speak from decades of observation.
