Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on THURSDAY June 29, 2023.
Where I’m sorry creators, your time on MAX has come to an end… WBD has begun restoring credits like “Director” and “Writer” (🤷♂️) to the shows and movies on MAX… 5 weeks after the situation was uh, politely pointed out.
PLUS: A congrats to YANKEES pitcher Domingo German who pitched only the 24th perfect game ever in the MLB last night. I mean it was against the A’s… but it still counts. 4 of them have now been pitched by YANKEES (for Janice: a perfect game means no batters reached base. He threw 72 strikes on 99 pitches).
German was actually on a pretty cold streak coming in, letting up 7 and 8 runs respectively in his last 2 outings.
He was also previously suspended 10 games for using rosin on his hands (an illegal sticky substance), and suspended 81 games in 2019-2020 for violating the MLB’s domestic abuse policies (he was never officially charged with a crime), according to The Athletic.
AND: In news for the 1994 Teen Beat crowd, Ben Savage is no longer communicating with his Boy Meets World co-stars… and they’re really not sure why. Man, political races are tough.
TIFF NEWS 😩: Ah… we were so close in making it til July before TIFF news started. We gave it our best. Oh right - the news: SEARCHLIGHT’s Taika Waititi soccer football movie Next Goal Wins will premiere there in September (it doesn’t hit theaters until Nov 17 🤔).
THEN: Spielberg, Marty and PTA saved at least one TCM job - Charles Tabesh, SVP of TCM Programming & Content Strategy, has been uh… “re-hired”. The director trio will now also be, I guess we call it “consulting” on the suddenly extremely precious Linear TV TCM schedule, along with Mike & Pam. Yeah 6 people should do it.
BONUS: The TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood will also continue because… yeah good luck with the optics on cancelling that now.

WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL:
Indiana Jones is tracking at around $65 Mil for the weekend from 4500 locations.
In 2008, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did $100 Mil - but 15 years ago isn’t much of a comp, especially as it was over Memorial Day wknd.
The last MI and Bond pic both opened in the $60 Mil vicinity.
As of last Friday, Indy pre-sales were in line with Wick 4 and Fast X according to Deadline, which opened to $74 Mil and $67 Mil respectively.
Either way - given its… $295 Million budget (wtf 🤯), it has a loooongg way to go after this weekend.

UPDATE: For anyone who read my look at how the Fed Benchmark Interest Rate has been affecting the 🥴 state of 2023 HOLLYWOOD last week - Fed Chair Jerome Powell said yesterday that he doesn’t expect the Inflation rate to hit his target of 2% until… 2025 😳, so I wouldn’t expect any major Interest Rate cuts for some time.
