No man is an island, and neither is any Hollywood crisis. Disney’s impasse with cable TV provider Charter over rights to its channels, including ESPN, comes at the same time as a grueling impasse in strike negotiations, and Sean McNulty and Elaine Low discuss why each standoff has something to do with the other. “These entertainment conglomerates are really starting to feel some hurt,” says Low, who dives into why a once unthinkable Jan. 2024 strike resolution is looking likelier by the day, and what a dark last three months of the year will mean for production. Also: Richard Rushfield checks in from TIFF to report back on festival highlights, including Sylvester Stallone’s art show and his first Hooters experience.
