CINEMA UNITED slams both WBD offers / HBO's next video game show / 'High Potential' keeps growing
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Friday, February 6, 2026.
Where if Josh D’Amaro is looking to use the relocation benefit included in his new contract on some new digs a little closer 🤏 to the DISNEY lot in Burbank than his current Orange County setup — there’s a nice property in Westlake Village that’s just been put on the market for just under $15M!
Nearly 10k sq. ft., 4 bedrooms (and a 2-bedroom guest house), a nice pool and separate hot tub, and of course a home theater room . . . perfect for giving notes to fix any movie that’s just not working.
Plus, I’m sure current owner Bob Chapek will give you a pretty sweet deal.
GOOD NEWS: If you bought Bitcoin in November of 2021, it’s now worth . . . about the same price.
WELCOME: Jennifer Garner’s ONCE UPON A FARM organic kids food company is becoming a public company today, with OFRM shares launching at $18 a share and a $724M valuation.
The company had a $38M net loss on $177M of revenue for the first 9 months of 2025.
KUDOS: Halle Berry announced that her engagement to singer Van Hunt is now street legal.
AND: Those Wall Street concerns around DISNEY theme park attendance from international travelers may have some weight — travel to the U.S. was -4.2% in 2025 according to the FT.
TODAY IN BOTS: Add detailed financial research to the list of employment sectors that ANTHROPIC AI is looking to kill. The new CLAUDE Opus 4.6, which totally doesn’t sound like a new luxury sedan, can scan company data, regulatory filings and market information to make its own reports. Ya know, reports like how many analyst jobs can we eliminate with this thing?
Even if the ability of Opus at the start of 2026 turns out to be a bit overhyped — map this out to where it is in, say, 2029.
ALSO: 2026 was the worst January for job losses since 2009 🏆 (wait, what happened then? 🤔) according to new data from an industry tracking firm . . . although 2023 was a very close 2nd place. But yes, looking at you, AMAZON and UPS.
There are now 0.9 jobs open for every unemployed worker, down from 2 in 2022, according to Axios.
OH: If you commuted in by train from Jersey today (Happy 1-month RTO mark, PARAMOUNT folks! Glad we had a warm January) — Trump is likely killing more jobs by stopping the already fully approved funding for the new rail tunnel well under construction between NYC and NJ to alleviate many of the issues your NJ TRANSIT commute now has. And yes, it’s being withheld under the auspices of DEI concerns.
THEN: CRUNCHYROLL is adding original video games to its app later this year to go with the 3rd party games already in the subscription.
PLUS: AMAZON told GOOGLE to step aside, playa — announcing it’s going to lay out $200B largely on new TV series AI infrastructure CapEx spending in 2026, above GOOGLE’s $180B target, and META’s $125B target for that matter.
OR: That’s over half a trillion 💰 largely being spent on AI infrastructure in 2026 from just 3 companies alone. You people better start using these bots! (but, of course, not to replace your livelihood, naturally 🥴).
AMAZON already spent $131B on CapEx in 2025, although AMAZON does have other projects that the 💰 goes toward, like robots (count that as AI as ya like) and its future STARLINK competitor, etc.
I updated my chart on how big tech’s advertising revenues compare to Hollywood/TV & Streaming down below today.
AND: WSJ tech reporter and video personality Joanna Stern is leaving the company this week, but will still contribute at the publication as she goes to “build something new,” TBA. If you want to find out what it is . . . at some point — you can sign up here.
OH: The NINERS and RAMS will be the 2 NFL West Coast teams playing in the Australia game next season (date TBA), while the COWBOYS will play in the Rio game (no opponent yet — nor word if it’ll be during season kickoff week like the past 2 years)
The int’l NFL game count is also upped to 9 next season (vs. 7 this season) with the addition of Mexico, which could also be the opening week int’l game given the time zone friendliness.
FULL LIST: Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Germany, France, Australia and 3 games in London. Get a streaming package already, fellas!
WAKEUP SUPER BOWL POLL
As the movies are . . . taking a bit of a siesta on anything making over $10M this weekend, let’s just go with an old fashioned pick’em.
WAKEUP HOUSEKEEPING
I’ll be coming to you later than usual on Sunday night after the big game, so I can include my roundup of the Hollywood ad buys. And, uh, show the results of the poll, naturally.
