Seems to me when you have a brand name like Coca Cola, Ford, Apple, Kellogg's, or Kleenex the smart move is to keep that brand name. HBO is a 40 year-old brand name. If they're smart, which with WB has always been suspect, they'll drop Max, and keep flying the HBO flag. This is on the scale of Facebook changing to META, which nobody outside of their office building thought was a smart idea.
Why start from zero when you're already behind the eightball in the streaming world as it is? Especially when your CEO is crying poor on every other internal memo?
Another interpretation of the HBO home screen issue is the terrible UI and Ux of the app. No one wants to navigate it to find want they want, 6 menus deep.
