PAR changes board seat / College 🏀 match NBA audience #s / SPOTIFY #pricehike
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
Where look at that, we’re halfway through January.
Now, why does it feel like New Year’s Eve was 2 months ago?
PLUS: You’ll once again be paying more for SPOTIFY next month — it’s raising U.S. prices in February to $13 a month, about 18 months after its last #pricehike. See? This is why I still buy music on iTunes.
D’OH: PSKY failed to get its lawsuit against WBD around the valuation of the DISCO GLOBAL cable TV biz in the NETFLIX deal expedited in a Delaware court this morning — with a judge ruling PAR’s business doesn’t meet the “suffer irreparable harm” metric for such an expedient approach to a ruling.
YUP: #Barbenheimer meet #Dunesday — Chalamet & RDJ are already testing this mashup for the big Dune 3 / Avengers: Doomsday face off on Dec. 18 this holiday season.
ALSO: NETFLIX is launching its original talk show podcasting roster, announcing shows with Pete Davidson (Jan. 30 launch) and former DALLAS COWBOY Michael Irvin (Jan. 19 launch).
AND: Parents can now set time limits on YT Shorts viewing for their kids’ accounts (that they know about) — 5.5 years after YOUTUBE launched the product.
THEN: SXSW announced titles for the fest this year — premieres include WB/NLC’s They Will Kill You and SEARCHLIGHT’s Ready or Not 2 . . . movies that are both hitting theaters March 27, and both involve young women escaping being murdered by a group of people. It’s our Armageddon/Deep Impact for 2026.
OTHER MOVIES:

IFC’s Jorma Taccone pic Over Your Dead Body

ON THE TV SIDE:
APPLE’s Elle Fanning series Margot’s Got Money Troubles
AMC’s Jonathan Glatzer series The Audacity
PLUS: The Radford Studio lot in L.A. is now in the control of GOLDMAN SACHS, after its owner, HACKMAN CAPITAL PARTNERS, defaulted on its $1.1B mortgage.
HACKMAN is the world’s largest owner of soundstage space with 19 facilities containing 145 soundstages. It also has 60 stages in development.
MEANWHILE: 50 Cent’s G-UNIT production outfit is looking to invest $124M to renovate a production facility in Shreveport, LA, into its new home — with the state agreeing to provide $50M “in performance-based funding” for infrastructure at the site.
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL
28 Years Later is back for part 2 of . . .? Well, we’ll see how we do this weekend. Looking at somewhere upper teens for the 3-day, and $20M+ for the 4-day.
As always, we are 3 days or bust here (err, including Thursday “previews”), so what’s the count by Sunday?
