Things kick off Jan. 6 with a 'Nickel Boys' event with Katey Rich in L.A.
Ankler Media and Letterboxd, the go-to global hub for film discovery and discussion, announced today a co-branded screening series, with Q&As, that kicks off Jan. 6 ahead of the 97th Academy Awards. Titled The Ankler x Letterboxd Presents: Audience First, The FYC Screening Series launches with a special screening of Nickel Boys and a Q&A with the film’s director RaMell Ross, actress Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and cinematographer Jomo Fray, moderated by awards editor Katey Rich of The Ankler’s Prestige Junkie. “Letterboxd is all about a shared journey of film discovery,” says Gemma Gracewood, Letterboxd editor-in-chief. “We take huge pride in seeing our members go on expansive cinematic journeys inspired by the ratings and reviews of fellow movie lovers. The Letterboxd community has been quick to embrace Nickel Boys, with reviews describing it as a monumental work of art; a hypnotic, sensory experience; formally transcendent filmmaking, soulfully directed. We’re so delighted therefore to partner with The Ankler in bringing RaMell Ross’ narrative feature debut to film lovers — and for the audience to learn more from the filmmaker himself.”
Adds Janice Min, CEO and editor-in-chief, Ankler Media: “With Oscar season upon us, we’re thrilled to partner with Letterboxd to offer a bespoke experience for our passionate audience of movie lovers. It’s a perfect combination of showcasing the best work coming out of Hollywood this awards season and exclusive access for the film-loving audience to hear directly from the creative community.”
Letterboxd has become "the go-to destination for serious film fans” where its global community of 16 million+ film lovers rate, review and share their movie-watching activities. Described in 2024 by the L.A. Times as “an unstoppable force,” its fans include Ayo Edebiri, Paul Mescal, Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan — with Martin Scorsese as its most followed member. Letterboxd’s regular interview segment, Four Favorites, has become a now seminal part of any movie promo tour and on Jan. 8, 2025, its annual Year in Review will be revealed, sure to be its biggest year yet.
Additional screenings will be announced in the coming weeks. For sponsorship inquiries, please reach out to London Sanders at London@theankler.com.
