Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY November 1, 2022.
Where a thoughtful reader sent me this curious offer she got emailed from HULU this week, to get HBOMAX… via her HULU subscription, kind of like an AMAZON CHANNELS deal (to note: HBOMAX is still not back on that).
TBH I’m not sure if this is new, as I’ve never looked before - SHO & STARZ are also available, so this may have been an old HBO NOW kinda thing that morphed into this? Although STARZ & SHO are on AMAZON channels too, and HBO is not.
But regardless - I certainly haven’t heard of an HBOMAX distro deal via HULU mentioned before, and it would certainly align with Zaz’s interest in re-doing these kinds of deals that the Kilar regime eradicated.
Only the $15 HBOMAX Ad-free tier is offered, and you’re able to watch HBO shows inside HULU, as well as movies like “Elvis”… but anything HBOMAX (“Hacks” etc) is only avail in the HBOMAX app, and doesn’t show up if you search HULU for them (super consumer friendly).
Huh. Wonder how the $$ situation works here (wholesale pricing situation for WBD? How does HBO viewership data sharing work etc?), and apologies if it’s something long-existing that I’ve just been in the dark about here.
OF NOTE: YOUTUBE is launching their own “Channels” store, where anyone can subscribe to the usual suspects (SHO, STARZ, AMC+ etc), but again notably HBOMAX is not involved here (nor is HULU, NETFLIX etc as per their policy re: AMAZON CHANNELS as well).
ELSEWHERE: NETFLIX bought another Gaming studio which will make for six total, this one called SPY FOX… as NETFLIX continues to make good on establishing this as the 3rd pillar of their product offering in the next 1-2 years. They just hit their 1 year anniversary in the Gaming business.
PLUS: This. Tour Starts March 18, tix on sale in 3 weeks on Nov 18. (LA dates end the tour in early Aug, NYC dates are Memorial Day weekend).
