SKYDANCE's sternly worded letter to PAR / 2 Peak TV creators get series orders / New Sports TV audience roundup
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect here on LINKED-IN if ya like) and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on FRIDAY, August 23, 2024.
Where from a programming POV for the next 4 years, I gotta go advantage Harris based on these numbers alone. Acceptance speech running times:
Kamala Harris: 37 mins
Donald Trump: 92 mins
He actually has the 3 longest convention nominee acceptance speeches in modern Presidential history. Bill Clinton, who reportedly went 2x over his allotted time on Wednesday at the DNC, has the 4th.
ALSO: DNC night 3 drew 20.2M viewers, again across 12 TV networks. So, down a smidge (-600k) from Tuesday, but still a very nice consistent 20M-ish hold here across 3 nights.
As per usual, 75% was 55+.
This is still topping the RNC by a margin (which had 17.9M on night 3).
Down a smidge from the 21M for night 3 of the 2020 DNC.
AND: The Fed Chair gives his annual big speech at the Jackson Hole symposium at 10 a.m. today. Which in my mind, is where bizarro world Richard Rushfield is today.
PLUS: If you’re in NYC here in the late summer window, NETFLIX is kicking off its Big & Loud fest at the Paris Theater this weekend (it’s next to The Plaza and Central Park), with some very rare 70mm prints of movies like Vertigo, Boogie Nights, Malcolm X and Spartacus. And yes, leave aside the irony of a company averse to the theatrical experience doing this and just enjoy the movies.
The event will roll on through the end of October with more “big” 70mm prints for 2001, The Untouchables, Nope, Inception and many more.
Full lineup and ability to buy tickets here.
WAKEUP POLL RESULTS
