Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY August 16, 2022.
Where this was a pretty interesting read on the growing Celeb & Exec private security business in LA. Not too many specifics on individual boldfaced names as you would expect 🕵️♂️… but some interesting notes on the approaches to celeb home security that they take 🏡, who they hire, tips for anyone to use, and costs - which run well into 6-figures 💰.
Costs which are sometimes picked up for execs by their studios as part of their compensation package (which for example is up to $900k for someone like Ted Sarandos)
CORRECTION from yesterday: DISNEYFOX recently moved the horror/thriller pic “Barbarian” from Aug 31, to fill that Sept 9 opening on the Fall release slate.
With the right DIS marketing love 💸 combined with the first week of high school being back in session everywhere in the US… definitely could surprise in that “IT” fall horror release weekend slot, especially as the only wide release on that date.
CLARIFICATION: A thing to note about the “Top Gun: Maverick” 3% box office growth this weekend - its distro went up about 400 screens (or 15%) to about 3200, per THR.
AND: The NY COMEDY FEST will be Nov 7 to 13. Conan, Mulaney, Tracy Morgan, Jenny Slate and Jo Koy are among the names doing shows (note - Mulaney’s show is out on LI at the UBS Arena). Tix go on sale Friday.

“He literally told me, ‘You guys don’t even have to do anything. I’m going to do all the negotiating.
We’re going to be paid the same, and you don’t have to think about this, Bryce.’”
- Bryce Dallas Howard in an Insider interview describing how her “Jurassic World” co-star Chris Pratt made sure they got paid the same on all ancillary things that came up in the franchise as it went along (stuff for the rides, video games etc)… since their acting pay disparity was so large when they both signed their deals for 3 movies back in 2014.
