Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY, April 2, 2025.
Where a happy tariff day to you, good sir and madam! Place you bets now on the Q2 numbers come the July earnings reports. Or at least Wall Street is doing so this week.
BTW: TESLA missed Wall Street’s Q1 car sales estimate by about 14%, hitting 336k vs. the 390k estimate. That’s also -13% YoY.
SO: NEWSMAX’s stock is now +2,230% in 2 days. Btw here are its 2024 numbers that have investors so excited to own a part of the magic:
Revenue: $171M (+26% YoY)
This is mainly a massive increase in affiliate fees from $2M to $26M YoY).
Net Loss: -$71M (a 72% loss increase YoY)
Adj. EBIDTA (profitability): $20M (vs. -$8M in 2023)
Market Cap: $20.7B
PAR: $8.3B
ROKU: $10.3B
FOX CORP: $24.4B
WBD: $25B
Yeah, this won’t end badly at all.
OOF: Tough break for MSNBC when Kornacki announces he’s not spinning to SPINCO and will remain at NBC NEWS (and SPORTS) as Chief Data Analyst.
PLUS: Kevin Smith is doing a 25-city tour with Dogma, starting Apr. 20 (Easter Sunday), to celebrate the 25th anniversary, culminating in a limited release in AMC THEATRES via ICONIC EVENTS RELEASING on June 5.
ALSO: The NFL punted on its “tush push” ban vote, so sadly you’ll be hearing that term again at least until May’s next owners meeting — but it did decide if your team goes into OT, they’ll at least now be guaranteed to get the ball.
THEN: NIELSEN’s patent lawsuit against VIDEOAMP was dismissed.
OH: The report that FOX CORP would be vacating a section of its NYC headquarters was subsequently pulled.
REST IN PEACE: Goes out to Val Kilmer of course, who died at the age of 65. A big and complicated talent over multiple decades, and it’s hard for me to think of another actor in a similar vein that has come along . . . which may be the best respect I could pay.
WB: Got the Job Done

Look, a lotta eyes on this presentation beyond just “Hey, here’s our slate” . . . or at least for a certain contingent, and this was a good presentation. Mike & Pam also wisely stayed clear about any job security innuendo.
Yes, a lot of questions remain — sure.
But, if you put a pin in knowing the production spends here (okay yes, a big pin), it was a rather entertaining, varied Hollywood movie slate presentation! Also notable for what was not mentioned . . . so let’s dive in.
