☀️ UNI's Freddy slays records, FLOWER MOON hits headwinds
Ex-MIRAMAX head sets up new outfit / Earnings week preview / ENDEAVOR + PGA ain't happenin
Evenin’! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY Oct. 29, 2023.
Where I’m pretty sure the JETS and the GIANTS bet money against their own teams winning their #JerseyBowl game today.
The JETS had zero third down conversions well into the fourth quarter… and the GIANTS missed a chip-shot 35-yard field goal late in the game, which would have essentially won it.
I mean, when the GIANTS put in a QB named Tommy DeVito in the second quarter… that shoulda probably tipped us off to the fix #Goodfellas (and yes, he is from NJ).
ALSO: NBC has set a Barry Manilow’s A Very Barry Christmas for Dec. 11 - see? Who needs scripted TV?
THEN: SAG / AMPTP talks continued this weekend, but no word on a plan for this week as of yet.
HUH: I don’t recall seeing any NFL advertising this afternoon for The Marvels, two weeks out from release (they did have one spot in NBC SNF tonight so far).
Although NETFLIX has definitely spent some NFL $$ for The Killer today, which hits the service on the same date Marvels hits theaters.
PLUS: The LAKERS have gone DtoC Streaming - #cordcutters can get the SPECTRUM SPORTS NET+ for $20 a month or $180 for the season to watch live LAKERS games, in the So Cal (and HAWAII) regions.
SPECTRUM, COX, and DIRECTV customers who have access to Spectrum Sports Net linear get free access to the streaming service.
AND: Here’s a preview video of the new APPLE TV device OS - look! A sidebar!
REST IN PEACE: Of course goes out to Matthew Perry, who died at the age of 54 this weekend. While the NBC series is what’s been referred to most this weekend naturally - he also did a lot to help others get sober, even if he wasn’t always successful at doing so in his life, and created the PERRY HOUSE sober living facility in SoCal in the early-mid 2010s. You’ll be missed, Chanandler Bong. #TVGuide #IfYaKnowYaKnow
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE RESULTS:
Exhibitors were right in their big optimism on Freddy’s… and ya’ll were way off! Kudos to the 12%!
PLUS: Fran made SNL… although gotta say the ‘redemptive’ aspect of this sketch which kicks in toward the end definitely felt pretty tacked on, following a good four minutes of SAG Halloween policy skewering.
