Transcript: HBO, A24 and Prestige's Next Phase
Hollywood's two darlings are undergoing makeovers
Sean McNulty (00:04):
Welcome to The Ankler Podcast. This is Sean McNulty of The Wakeup newsletter here at The Ankler here in New York City, on the afternoon of Thursday, June 27th. I'm joined in Los Angeles by Richard Rushfield and Elaine Low, who has somehow been on the podcast this long without creating an Ankler podcast cheer. Elaine, have you been holding out on this? You have a cheerleading past, this came out in the column this week.
Elaine Low (00:28):
That's what you took away from this whole column on unscripted content?
Sean McNulty (00:32):
You think you know a person, Elaine, I'm just going to say, and this one was a little surprise to me.
Elaine Low (00:37):
Yes. Full disclosure. I used to be a cheerleader in college, but only for the stunts.
Sean McNulty (00:43):
That's why you did it, you mean?
Elaine Low (00:45):
Yeah, for the stunts. You know, you get tossed up in the air, you flip around, it's all good fun. It's dangerous fun.
Sean McNulty (00:51):
Were getting tossed or were you the tossee?
Elaine Low (00:52):
I was the flyer. I was the flyer.
Sean McNulty (00:53):
Oh yeah?
Elaine Low (00:54):
Sometimes I would base, but normally I would fly.
Sean McNulty (00:56):
Wow. Okay.
Elaine Low (00:59):
It was a good time.
Sean McNulty (00:59):
All right. That's not why you're on crutches this week though. That was a separate incident. You're not going back to your old college days?
Elaine Low (01:04):
Yes, I am on crutches because of tennis this week. I knew sooner or later my sport would betray me. That's what I get for playing in midday, 85 degree heat.
Sean McNulty (01:14):
It's tough getting old, Elaine. Careful out there, just telling you.
Elaine Low (01:18):
Please send your thoughts and prayers, and tennis memes.
Sean McNulty (01:20):
Yes, exactly. Send the good vibes Elaine's way. Well, Elaine, we have a tentative IATSE deal, so we can take the rest of the summer off, right? We're good now. Is that how this works?
Elaine Low (01:29):
We still need to wait for Teamsters and basic crafts before everybody can collectively exhale.
Sean McNulty (01:33):
Come on, you're ruining it. We have a whole month left now.
Elaine Low (01:36):
Tentative optimism is what I'll say the mood is.
Sean McNulty (01:39):
Yeah. We're about a month out from when the deadlines are up there, Elaine. So certainly, is a positive sign, right? This is, you know...
Elaine Low (01:47):
Yeah. When we see the full language of the agreement, then people will be able to more fully weigh in on how they're feeling.
Sean McNulty (01:52):
Yes, yes, of course. Of course. But some positive news there on the labor front in Hollywood. But this week, Richard, the big shot in the arm for arguably the hottest mini-major in Hollywood, A24. Remember that term, mini-major, Richard? We had a big term in the '90s and 2000s, we had Artisan Pictures, October Films, Polygram. Remember those?
