☀️TIKTOK Euro $$ booms, plus new moves to enter Music Label biz
2 Seasons & out for Heigl NETFLIX series / NATPE is bankrupt / Latest AMAZON TNF ratings
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY October 4, 2022.
Where given the impending Yom Kippur holiday starting this evening and… an already rather slight news day today - I may hold off on sending out editions for a day or 2 if the news cycle turns out as expected.
PLUS: ED SHEERAN is going on a US tour this Summer starting in May. Ticket info & details in the link for the inclined.
ALSO: If you’re wondering why Kim Kardashian got ping’d for endorsing crypto, while Matt Damon walks around with an extra $1.26 Million in his backpack this week (#funfact: all in $50 bills. $100 bills are is too showy) - it’s a peculiar caveat in SEC law according to Axios - you can promote a crypto company/exchange all ya like, but if you promote a specific coin as Kim did, you need to disclose not only that you were paid, but how much.
AND: My podcast chat with WBD International Biz head Gerhard Zeiler is here for the listening, outlining the HBOMAX plan for the next 2 years:
Don’t expect much if any HBOMAX global expansion into any new territories… or Ad-Supported Tier expansion to International markets for another year-ish, despite DISNEY & NETFLIX’s growth into that business in the next 2 months.
Also don’t expect a ‘bundling’ approach to the combination of HBOMAX & DISCO+ next Summer - they’re definitely looking to create one big, take-all product.
And much more on the state of commitments to CNN, Sports and the Theatrical business. Project Popcorn? Never heard of it.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
It was a pretty quiet Monday, this’ll be quick.

AND THE LATEST AMAZON NFL RATINGS
Thursday’s DOLPHINS / BENGALS matchup ticked up a bit in streams to 11.2 Million, plus another 530k in local TV viewing combined in both markets - about 50% below the rough Local TV viewing average for the first 3 games. While NIELSEN has the game at 11.7 Million total, AMAZON reported 13.4 Million with their “additional” data that is not delineated (or counted in the world of advertising). /SportsMediaWatch
📝 IN OTHER WORDS…
“When we figured out how to do it, by golly, it was just a delight — maybe that’s the wrong word to use for murder mysteries,
But doing these stories via podcast has been more pleasurable than most things I’ve done in my ridiculously long career.”
- KEITH MORRISON giving a quote that couldn’t be more Keith Morrison in a NY Times profile on the insane success “Dateline” has in the podcast medium.
