The Rushfield Lunch: Gen X Culture, 'Catastrophe' with Meghan Daum

I sit down with one of the voices of her generation to figure out its fate, with a lot of fun digressions along the way

I had a wild and free-flowing lunchtime chat this week with author, essayist and podcaster Meghan Daum. She is the author of a new book — The Catastrophe Hour — a collection of pieces about the horrors of these times. Our talk took us everywhere from the roots of Gen X to the Roman Orgy of Media in the ’90s to a plea to bring back smoking to real estate to the Renaissance Faire. Thanks to all who joined.

Join us live on Wednesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. PT for the next edition of The Rushfield Lunch, when my lunch guest will be commentator and essayist Ben Dreyfuss.

My earlier episodes have featured Lena Dunham, Amazon Studios founder Roy Price, Substack cofounder Hamish McKenzie, longtime film producer and exec Ted Hope, and Matthew Specktor, author of the new Hollywood memoir The Golden Hour. All episodes are archived on our YouTube page.

Subscribers receive a notification when I go live, including now on Mondays for my new box office show, Monday Morning Quarterbacks, with The Wakeup’s Sean McNulty. Or download the Substack app and get an alert when we go live, usually around 10 a.m. PT.
