Jolie to play Opera singer / F1 finalizes DISNEY deal / GOOGLE fined over TV biz anti-competitive INDIA matters
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on MONDAY October 24, 2022.
Where I’m sorry if the email is a little late today - I was busy putting together my TSWIFT clock, a collage of the 4 different album covers released of “Midnight” (each has 3 numbers of the clock on it), and yes, each one comes with…. the same actual album. $140 very well spent!
BONUS: None of the 4 albums have any of the 7 extra songs she released… just after the album dropped. And I’m sure the units are moving well regardless. Remember when NAPSTER was gonna make the music biz toast?
AND: The WSJ points out that by the time TSWIFT heads out on her next tour, she’ll have released four albums that she’s never really performed live/toured with. That’ll be a fun set list to figure out...
PLUS: “Back to the Future” will launch on BROADWAY on June 30 in previews. The Marty McFly role is still to be cast.
ALSO: The WORLD SERIES is set - PHILLY vs. HOUSTON starting on Friday.
THEN: For anyone keeping count - it’s BALENCIAGA ‘nay’ on YE, but ADIDAS still ‘ye’, as UTA head Jeremy Zimmer also issues official support to boycott YE movement.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
“Halloween Ends” badly, as specialty film market volume is back to pre-pandemic levels
AMAZON & GOOGLE mix is up in the INDIA TV OS biz
NETFLIX sets new MATTEL deal for “Barbie” content
The week ahead in Q3 Earning season and more
POD: For anyone inclined as to why I bothered diving into all those Critics & Audience scores of 2022 films, and what the potential (quiet) brand damage can be over time - Janice, Richard & I broke it down on the latest Ankler podcast here.
POLL: The Friday Wakeup Box Office poll committee was… pretty much split on Friday, so kudos to the 52% of you who picked over $13 Mil for “Ticket to Paradise”.
And wishing a happy continued DIWALI celebration to those who observe!
