GLOBES set non-NBC friendly 2024 date / Lemon returns to CNN, biz as usual / CANDLE sets internal production group
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY February 22, 2023.
Where the GOLDEN GLOBES are going back to Sunday next year on Jan 7… so NBC, it was a nice run (NBC will very likely be airing NFL that night as it should be the final weekend of the regular season, failing something unprecedented).
No word on who’s seriously kicking the tires about a new deal for the 6 Million-ish audience.
AND: Hope you’re enjoying your new episode of CNN This Morning today - with 100% more Don Lemon, as Chris Licht has seemingly doubled down on keeping the anchor at the forefront of their morning programming. The 54-year-old anchor is now “undergoing training” to learn why calling a 51-year-old woman ‘past her prime’ is not the right way to go.
There was no on-air mention of the incident this morning, but Don did tweet an apology and pledge to do better.
PLUS: AO Scott is moving on from the Film beat at the NY Times after 23 years, segueing to the NYT Book Review beat.
THEN: GUNS N’ ROSES is going back on the road this Summer for 5 months - US dates start in August, pre-sale tix go on sale today.
ALSO: Today is the start of Lent, all best to those observing with their 40 day abstinations or commitments.
ALTHOUGH: If you work at AMAZON, I’m not sure if “going into the office more” counts if the bosses are making you - AMAZON is instilling a mandatory 3-days-a-week for everyone by May policy (current policy varies by team, and some exceptions like those in Sales & Customer Support will still have exemptions). It was… not well received.
OH: NFT’s are still a thing - they’ve just apparently settled into a $500 Million a month-ish Sales range according to Axios, vs… well, whatever hype you read pre-market correction.
THEN: Digiday polled 7 TIKTOK Creators about what changes they’d like to see - ‘More Money’ was number one, followed by things like ‘Unpredictable Algorithm’ and Burnout/mental health issues. Ah social media platforms… never change.
POLL: With the $12 a month META VERIFIED plan announcement this weekend… A):
And B) an analyst put a paid subs target of 12 Million by end of 2023 out there (US & EUROPE release dates haven’t been announced yet). You going over or under?
The folks at CNBC kindly invited me on yesterday to discuss the matter, and the existing comps.
AND: Richard & Janice one upped me and did a huge new profile on The Ankler in Vanity Fair. Maybe I should get Richard’s stylist? Although I’m pretty sure that’s just Janice giving input.

usual caveats: back of the napkin math, assumes everyone finished the movie (including the credits), no one watched twice, or that a bunch of folks didn’t rewind certain parts, etc. so consider these minimum numbers. and it’s based on NETFLIX’s self-reported numbers.
