☀️Strike #PainPoints: How Wall Street & the Business Calendar could end the strike
PGA & LIV golf merge with Saudi investment / SAG-AFTRA authorizes a strike / NBA Finals #s rebound
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY June 6, 2023.
Where - anyone wanna give me $3500 in December? Um no not for this… I just want to take a nice vacation. Like a real one, not in a visor. Or as WSJ’s Joanna Stern calls it, a face computer.
ALSO: PLUTO has put together a pretty great lineup of movies for Summer (list in the link), all entirely free to watch as usual, and the Ad load isn’t terrible! I totally got sucked into Better Off Dead this Sunday when I was nosing around, and it was about 10 minutes of ads for the whole pic.
CORRECTION from yesterday: The Belmont Stakes now airs on FOX, not NBC. My apologies for the error.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
At a time when no one is even certain when the WGA and AMPTP will get together in the same room again - I thought it time to look at the business calendar forces that could very well be what brings the sides together.
Yes, graduation speech strikes and series shutdowns are viable tactics, but let’s face it - for execs whose compensation is increasingly in stock options… the major #painpoint for the AMPTP members is stock price.
So, when does this enter the picture, and how?
I'll break it down in a calendar to show where the #PainPoints are going to be for the Studios and Streamers, and the timelines to mark in the coming months where the likelihood of them needing to cry Uncle become more pronounced - a look into the proverbial Strike crystal ball if you will… Wall Street-style. What, your crystal ball isn’t also from Tiffany’s? 🔮
OH: Also the PGA Tour (pro golf) as we know it, is ending… as the Saudis finally succeed in officially infiltrating a major professional US Sports league.
🪧 STRIKE FORCE
98% of SAG-AFTRA members voted to authorize a strike. Negotiations begin tomorrow.
PEACOCK’s Hysteria! series starring Julie Bowen has shut down production due to the strike. /Deadline
