Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on THURSDAY September 1, 2022.
Where good morning boys and girls! The word of the quarter is… Discounting.
First HBOMAX is still going strong with 40% off for a year (deal avail thru October).
NOW: PEACOCK joins the bandwagon today - offering a year of Ad-Supported for just $20 for new customers, a 60% discount.
AND: PARAMOUNT+ is adding in SHOWTIME programming (more on that in the MEDIA BIZ section below), and for September - new customers can sign up for PAR+SHO (and access all content thru the PAR+ app) at $8 for their first month Ad-Supported, and $13 Ad-free. Prices go up to $12 and $15 come month 2.
Even DISNEY+ has their big DISNEY+ DAY on September 8.
APPLE TV and PRIME VIDEO would discount if they could find their financial business model plans (coulda sworn we had ‘em around here when we started 🤔…).
And NETFLIX, well…
BASICALLY: This is all about kickstarting those Q3 user numbers back in the right direction in the US… and then counting on a strong Q4 of programming on all Streamers to keep growth going.
AND: PARAMOUNT you owe me $10 for announcing major streaming biz news on friggin’ August 31st. Not cool man.
