Where I hope you all enjoyed National Popcorn Day today at the movie theater while your TIKTOK was down . . . for less than 24 hours.
Nice to see even TIKTOK can’t resist sucking up to Trump. The next 90 days should be fun.
But yes, the movie theater people decided that the very popular National Cinema Day event at the end of summer in 2022 and 2023 (aka $3 / $4 movie day) to get people into theaters was, well, too popular.
So today — they’re just giving a food discount to people who are already showing up to the theater. I’m sure it’ll have a similar effect on kindling an enthusiasm to get out to a theater more often.
Although — why theaters chose a Sunday where there are 2 very big NFL games . . . and not, say, a national holiday Monday with zero daytime audience competition (the NCAA CFP 🏈 is at night for cable TV bundle folk on ESPN) . . . is a legitimate question.
Regardless, I hope you brought your own bucket with you to a CINEMARK theater, which was filling up anything for just $5 (although if you’re holding onto your Dune bucket at home — maybe keep that to yourself).
Er, that is — any bucket up to 400 oz. (about 3 gallons). Nice try, Rushfield.
THEN: Enjoy the musical stylings of Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus, Carrie Underwood and . . . the Village People, naturally, at the Inauguration tomorrow afternoon. Or I guess that’s really just Village Person, because only one of the guys is showing up.
OH: The Critics Choice Awards are rescheduled for Fri., Feb. 7, still on E!.
AND: Enjoy the CFP Championship on ESPN tomorrow night (if you have cable TV) — I know the coaches of the 4 teams who made the CFP semifinals this year are enjoying their spoils from the season already.
Nothing like $38M for 4 coaches and . . . well, NIL $ is great for the few players who get it — but the vast majority of the 450+ players across those 4 teams do not.
HOUSEKEEPING
I’m coming to you a smidge earlier tonight so I can root for the one NFL team still making New York proud as the snow falls in NYC this evening — tough loss today L.A. (and not just because it meant that the EAGLES won, but that definitely made it tougher for me). Nevertheless, quite a snow game.
I may send an abbreviated edition on Tuesday, but if not I’ll be back on Wed. with the full NETFLIX Q4 breakdown. #RIPSubscriberCount
