Rushfield: SAG, WGA and War Games Ahead
Writers seem to be headed to the perilous next phase alone
The summer of stasis continues as Hollywood holds its breath and waits for the final word from SAG. The results will mark the kick-off of Phase II of the writers strike, for better or worse, depending on where you sit.
Today I will walk through scenarios of different paths this can go down, paths that will (unfortunately) lead to even more crossroads:
Fran Drescher's 90-second video in full military regalia (is this the official SAG President’s uniform?) seemed a blow to those who hoped the actors would follow the writers out to the street. But as Drescher and negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland noted, there's a long way to go here before the closing bell in order to achieve what they promise will be a "seminal deal."
So to cover my bases, the actors could go one of two ways:
They can go on strike.
