The Rushfield Lunch: Talking Young Hollywood with Tepper

How to convince someone to leave the doom scroll and come to the TV show

Share

This week, I welcomed one of the leading lights of Filmstack and a representative of Young Hollywood into the crusty, hidebound sanctum of The Rushfield Lunch. Tepper, whose Tepper Talks Substack newsletter has become an indispensable industry read, joined me to discuss the current state of affairs in Hollywood for her and her peers. Tepper works as a writer’s assistant with a sideline in marketing, and she shared her breaking-in story that has sustained her through Covid, strikes and pullbacks. One can’t imagine a worse time to be getting started in Hollywood, but she has managed to make it work and shared a bit of how she’s done it, as well as what life looks like for folks new to the industry at this terrible moment. We also discussed Hollywood’s failures in marketing to her generation and how she advises people to make the most of social media in this complex and overwhelming new world. It was a great conversation that gave me hope that the light has not been snuffed out in this industry yet. Give it a listen.

My earlier episodes have featured everyone from Lena Dunham and Amazon Studios founder Roy Price to Substack cofounder Hamish McKenzie and longtime film producer and exec Ted Hope. I’ve also lunched with cultural commentators Ben Dreyfuss and Sonny Bunch, the authors Matthew Specktor, Meghan Daum and Olga Khazan, and Netflix comedy mavens Tom Segura and Jeremy Konner. All episodes are archived on our YouTube page.
