Rushfield Jamboree: The Great Entertainment Semi-Finals
With the Streaming Wars (RIP), we move to the next round
This is the occasional Jamboree edition of my column, in which I briefly touch on various issues that have popped up in the industry.
I came into this topic through a funny back door — Netflix’s top global films list, the English and more particularly, the non-English versions. So, this is not a list that would be my personal top 10, given that it’s the most-watched films on a service of hundreds of millions of people worldwide, and I’m a bubble-dwelling media snob in one of the most self-absorbed cities on the planet (fourth most self-absorbed actually, after N.Y., D.C. and the technopolis up north). It’s an unabashedly populist list of course. The masses aren’t going deep into the Netflix catalog to give Noah Baumbach’s White Noise another chance.
