☀️Reese & Kutcher can't top Jonah & Eddie NETFLIX opening numbers
VICE takes $30 Mil loan to pay far overdue bills / NEW LINE sets yet another horror pic / SEARCHLIGHT buys another SUNDANCE pic
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY February 15, 2023.
Where The Boss has set the 2nd half of dates for his 2023 tour. Late Summer Stadium dates and Fall Arena dates are all here (with some room for more dates to be added onto the East Coast shows 👀).
SO: Let the new outrageous SPRINGSTEEN ticket prices stories begin next weekend (Chicago is on sale this Fri, the rest mostly start next week - all details in the link). 🤞 for affordable Edmonton tix!
AND: On another side of the spectrum, PHISH dropped their Summer tour dates as well.
THEN: After knocking back a few cold ones with Rupert at the SUPER BOWL, Elon Musk flew right back to CA to apparently chastise his engineers because Joe Biden’s SUPER BOWL tweet cheering on Philly got 3X engagement of his own tweet with a similar sentiment according to Platformer.
Musk then ordered his engineers to tweak TWITTER so his tweets get top-tier promotion/visibility to users going forward.
ALSO: Ryan Reynolds is looking to invest in another professional sports team - this time a little closer to home and his homeland - the NHL’s OTTOWA SENATORS.
Apparently he’s been brought in as a partner in a bid for the team, with the idea that he’ll of course be the high profile face of the group - not sure how much actual $$ Ryan would be putting in here… although that Gin sale money was pretty sweet.
And yes, he plans to do a TV series about it if it happens (which would also follow a plan to build a new Arena for the team in downtown Ottowa - they currently play far outside the city center). Needless to say, the NHL is in favor so we’ll see how it goes.
OTTOWA hasn’t won a Stanley Cup in its near 30 year history, and has only made it to the Finals once.
PLUS: A couple other SUPER BOWL notes (still haven’t seen the final numbers released with out-of-home/Bar viewing incorporated yet):
KC also beat PHILLY in hometown TV audience share: 87 to 77 (representing the % of TV’s in use on Sunday night in those markets who were watching the game).
BTW: The Wakeup Friday poll crew came up short… but very evenly dispersed for SUPER BOWL predictions on Friday:
35% went PHILLY and 33% for KC. Turning off the game after RIRI as expected also had a strong showing at 32%.
CLARIFICATION: FOX SPORTS opened up their streaming app on Sunday so you could watch the SUPER BOWL without being an authenticated Cable TV subscriber… which explains the 7 Million audience number. Thanks to reader Ben for the heads up as I personally didn’t see this ‘free to everyone’ promoted much/at all, but clearly America just went to the app and rolled the dice.
AND: I left off the ‘e’ on new SHOWTIME Senior Creative Advisor Gary Levine’s name yesterday, my apologies!
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
VICE needs $30 Million loan to pay past-due bills, a company with $600+ Million of 2022 revenue, as it searches for a new buyer.
FOX’s TUBI drops updated User numbers and insights. Thankfully there was no rabbit hole involved.
SEARCHLIGHT makes another SUNDANCE pic deal.
Minions stay very strong on the NETFLIX FILM chart, plus how the Reese & Kutcher’s pairing faired, how the big international titles fared, and more.
