☀️ PSKYWBD — Why Now And What It Means For Jobs
HBO gets solid 'Task' debut / NETFLIX, AMC extend, expand deal / 'Highlander' delayed at AMAZON
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Friday, September 12, 2025.
Where I’m just gonna start the day with a simple kudos to the NHL’s WASHINGTON CAPITALS for bringing back paper tickets for the new season this fall!
The pennants I kept on my childhood bedroom wall that were filled with stubs from the games I went to (and the few that I still have in a crate somewhere) are smiling.
THEN: The Hamptons Film Fest announced its full lineup, which kicks off Friday, Oct. 3, with the premiere of A24’s Eternity. Passes are on sale here now, and individual tix go on sale Sept. 22.
AND: Add Ego Nwodim to the list of names leaving SNL this year, but hopefully we can get one more Miss Eggy for the road? 🤞
ALSO: ISPOT puts the linear TV ad spend during the opening weekend NFL games (Thu. to Mon.) at $357M, with VERIZON getting the most impressions. Oddly, STATE FARM wasn’t even in the top 5 brands (although Mahomes and Meghan Trainor did make the top 10).
OH: A24 is now also starting a music label (and you can listen to their first artist signed here on SPOTIFY). You guys know you don’t need to enter . . . every associated entertainment business, right? Let me know when the new movie candy line updates drop!
PLUS: Grocery prices were +0.6% in August according to the latest CPI numbers released yesterday, the highest month-to-month leap since Aug. 2022. Including:
Coffee: +21%
Steak: +16%
Eh, real Americans don’t consume much of those anyway. I mean, fruits & vegetables were only +2.3%! Which I’m sure everyone noticed.
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL
The bulls were very welcoming to me last weekend, so I’ll rejoin them on SONY CRUNCHYROLL’s Demon Slayer.
NEW POD
PSKYWBD is apparently closer than we think
Well, this is one way to get to 20 theatrical movies a year. Yes, move over AMAZON MGM UA . . . we have a (potential) new company in town with a name that also serves as the test for our driver’s license renewal! 🤓
It would also, uh, severely change the landscape across movies, streaming, news and TV, globally.
So, let’s dive into:
The “Why so soon?” of it all. 🧐
The pros and cons for the workforces across departments.
What the resulting Hollywood studio landscape
willwould look like as the late 2020s arise . . . as this move, if it comes to fruition, would make our business rather unrecognizable from what it looked like just 5 to 7 years ago. Once again.
