📽 THE SILVER SCREEN
BOX OFFICE
1. “Bullet Train” : $13.4 million ($54 Million US, $115 Million global)
An OK -55% drop from opening weekend
Budget was around $90 Million, so hopefully the August drought helps it reach that in the US.
2. “DC League of Super Pets” : $7 Million ($58 Million US, $110 Million global)
35% drop from last weekend
$90 Million budget so this will be mostly break-even’ish for WB.
3. “Top Gun: Maverick” : $7.1 Million ($674 Million US, $1.35 Billion global)
Yeah this movie did better than it did last week… +3% as it rises on the charts from #6 to #3. In weekend 12.
4. “Thor: Love and Thunder” : $5.3 Million ($325 Million US, $720 Million global)
-31% drop from last weekend
5. “Nope” : $5.3 Million ($107.5 Million US, $114 Million global)
-38% drop as it crosses $100 Million US… and still has very little international business.
6. “Minions: The Rise of Gru” : $5 Million ($344 Million US, $790 Million global)
-31% drop from last weekend
ELSEWHERE AT THE BOX OFFICE
A24’s “Bodies Bodies Bodies” took 9th place with $3.2 Million, from about 1300 screens.
LIONSGATE’s “Fall” opened in 10th place, with $2.5 Million from about 1500 screens.
UNI’s “Easter Sunday” fell 56% to $2.4 Million, hitting 11th place.
GRAVITAS’s Diane Keaton body-switching comedy “Mack and Rita” took in $1 Million from 2000 screens, and had a rare D+ Cinemascore from audiences.
Total Box Office was just $66 Million, lowest wknd total of Summer 2022
Previous low was $75 Million back on the weekend before Memorial Day. It’s also tied for the worst weekend at the Box Office since the Jan-Feb Omicron days 😳.
So yeah, there’s just no way of putting any kind of spin on #TheBigHurt this is kicking off for the Box Office.
And yes, August is traditionally not the strongest month of the Summer. However to hit this point at the August 12 mark is a bad sign, so let’s take a look at what’s ahead - and a look at years past:
