We just hit our three-year anniversary here at Ankler Media, and want to thank you for coming along on the ride. We’ve gone from a two-person shop (us) into one today that serves 135,000 subscribers (our audience has grown 11x in these three years), and now includes top talent Sean McNulty, Elaine Low, Katey Rich, Manori Ravindran, Ashley Cullins, Erik Barmack, Entertainment Strategy Guy and Martini Shot’s Rob Long. We’ve also birthed two hit standalone subscription newsletters: Like & Subscribe, covering the creator economy, from Natalie Jarvey, and The Optionist, about available IP, from Andy Lewis. And we’d be remiss to not mention our best-in-class events, whether it’s our Prestige Junkie Live podcasts, or screenings and live interviews with our partners at Letterboxd, or Thom Powers of Pure Nonfiction.
Now, we want to tell you about a few more happenings here:
COMING TO THE ANKLER: The legendary Lesley Goldberg is joining our stellar Series Business team here at The Ankler. Series Business is our newsletter dedicated to the business of television, presently helmed by Elaine Low in L.A. and Manori Ravindran in London, covering international. Lesley’s newsletter starts this Wednesday, with a laser focus on TV development, encompassing agencies, staffing, and, because it’s Lesley, scoops. Lesley reported on the business of television for 20 years, most recently as West Coast TV editor at The Hollywood Reporter, concentrating on development, and breaking one story after another for more than two decades (seeing an unstoppable drive in Lesley, Janice had promoted her out of the copy desk). Goldberg has earned multiple awards, including Online Journalist of the Year at the Southern California Journalism Awards. She also co-hosted the award-winning weekly podcast TV’s Top 5, which featured her industry-leading analysis, as well as interviews with showrunners and industry decision makers. Goldberg, an L.A. native and diehard Dodgers fan, lives in Burbank with her wife (a TV writer) and dog. You can reach her at Lesley.Goldberg@theankler.com or at 818-400-8060 by phone or on Signal. All tips welcome.
A NOTE TO SUBSCRIBERS: If you haven’t done so already, the next week is your last chance to become a paid subscriber to The Ankler and lock in 2024 pricing before our price increase. We have kept our paid subscription price steady for three years, all while delivering you more and more smart information from trusted voices that help you navigate your career and provide deeper understanding about an industry in flux. Our team now encompasses dozens of the best and trusted voices, people who firmly disavow junk food web hits, click bait, the rewriting of press releases or the pollution of your inbox with nonsense. We will always respect your time, and the people in this industry. Our subscription price will increase $20 a year starting Feb. 10th for annual subscriptions, and $4 a month for monthlies.
Here’s to another great year in partnership.
With gratitude,
Janice and Richard
